Hazardous Material Use, Generation and Disposal
Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)

This packet is intended as a seminar presentation, but could be included in an introductory course. It introduces the students to the material safety data sheets (MSDS). The assignment gives the students practice in doing research on the Internet.

Time for presentation is estimated as 25-30 minutes.

Objectives:

1. To introduce the students to the need to consider safety when dealing with hazardous materials.
2. To discuss OSHA, State, and University (organizational) safety requirements
3. To make the students aware of the MSDS and its uses.
4. Through an assignment, to show the students how they can use the Internet to find MSDS, and what kind of information an MSDS contains.

Purpose: To gain experience working with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and understand their purpose.
