Step 1- College of Engineering Application

This application includes:
- Test Score Information (See information on GRE scores below)
- Statement of Purpose
- Resume (optional)
- Letters of Recommendation: Submit three (3) letters of recommendation:
- Online submission:
- This is the preferred method for submission.
- In the section of the College of Engineering application, click on the link titled, “Recommendations.”
- List the names and email addresses of your recommenders
- Select “Yes” to indicate they will submit online
- An email will be sent to them with appropriate links and instructions
- You can log into your application later to see who has submitted a letter and who has not yet.
- Hardcopy (paper) submission:
- You still must enter the names of your references in the online application form
- Select “No” to indicate they will not submit online
- Ensure that the recommenders send the letters in sealed envelopes with their signature across the seal
- A recommendation form and/or letter may be used

Step 2 - University Application

This application includes:
- Payment of nonrefundable application fee.
- This fee is required.
- We are not able to waive this fee
- Transcripts
- Academic transcript(s) must be official
- Submit one official copy from each college from which you have taken courses (except the University of Utah)
- Do NOT mail transcripts to the Mechanical Engineering Department.
- Transcripts should be mailed directly to the Admissions Office (address below)
- TOEFL scores (International Applicants only)
- The 1st page of your passport (International Applicants only)
- Graduate financial statement (International Applicants only)
Important University Application Information:
- Contact the University of Utah Admissions Office with all questions regarding this application or transcripts (contact info below)
- Your University of Utah application will not be considered complete until the Admissions Office has received all of the required information – including transcripts and the application fee
- It can take up to two months for the University of Utah Admissions Office to process this information and forward it to the department.

Step 3 - GRE Scores
Results of the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) General Test must be submitted to the Student Services Office directly from Educational Testing Services (ETS).
- Institution Code for the University of Utah: R4853
- The Department Code for Mechanical Engineering: 1502
Other Important Information:
- GRE results must be less than five (5) years old at the time of admission
- Photocopies will not be accepted
- The copy ETS sends to the student is not valid for admissions
- Students must request ETS send score reports
- Requests may be made through ETS by phone, FAX, or mail
