3 Step Application Process
Prospective graduate students, including University of Utah seniors, apply for admission to graduate study by completing the 3 step process outlined below. All 3 steps must be completed to be considered for the ME Graduate Program.
The application materials must be submitted by the published semester deadline.

Step 1- College of Engineering Application

This on-line application also includes:
Letters of Recommendation: Three letters of recommendation are required of all applicants. We prefer that these letters are submitted on-line. However, we will accept hard copies of letters sent to the Mechanical Engineering Department.
- You must enter the names of your references in the on-line application form even if your references are mailing their letters.
- If they are being mailed, please ensure that the recommenders send the letters in sealed envelopes to the Mechanical Engineering Student Services Office. A recommendation form and/or letter may be used.

There is no fee with the College of Engineering On-line Application.
Step 2 - University Application
University of Utah Application
Your University of Utah application will not be considered complete until the Admissions Office has received all of the required information – including transcripts and the application fee. All questions on this application or on receiving transcripts must be directed to the University of Utah Admissions Office. It can take up to two months for the University of Utah Admissions Office to process this information and forward it to the department.

- Payment of nonrefundable application fee. This fee is required. We are not able to waive this fee.
- One official copy of academic transcript(s) from each college from which you have taken courses (except the University of Utah)

Do NOT mail transcripts to the Mechanical Engineering Department. Transcripts should be mailed directly to the Admissions Office.
Step 3 - GRE Scores
Results of the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) General Test must be submitted to the Student Services Office directly from Educational Testing Services (ETS). Requests for GRE scores (score reports) may be made through ETS by phone, FAX, or mail.
- Institution Code for the University of Utah: R4853.
- The Department Code for Mechanical Engineering: 1502.
Additional Information on requesting GRE score reports may be found on the ETS web site (www.ets.org). GRE results should be less than five years old at the time of admission.
