Research Assistant Opportunities
Financial support for graduate students, through the Department of Mechanical Engineering, comes primarily from one of two separate sources: Teaching Assistantships (TA) and Research Assistantships (RA). RA appointments are made directly through faculty involved in the research. Availability of research funds varies from semesters and new graduate students are strongly encouraged to discuss potential research areas with members of the faculty involved in areas of the student's interest.
The Mechanical Engineering Department has 4 salary levels for RAs. These depend upon the level of accomplishment in the graduate program.
Salary Levels:
- RA1 $4,250/semester
- RA2 $4,750/semester
- RA3 $5,250/semester
- RA4 $5,750/semester
These are considered half-time (20 hours per week) positions. Partial RA positions may be awarded by faculty with a corresponding decrease in hourly expectations.
