Prosthetic arm control theory

Implemented multiple degree of freedom artificial arm control Developed control system for Utah Artificial Arm

Biomechanics and kinesiology

Developed the kinematic and dynamic equations for the human shoulder Quantified the anatomy of the human shoulder, measured the instantaeous moment arms of the muscles about the shoulder and arm joints Measured and modelled the dynamics of gymnasts falling onto gymnastic mats and pits

Signal processing and adaptive filtering

Designed an adaptive myoelectric processing system for the control of artificial limbs - presently used in the Utah Artificial Arm Designed a multiple-channel adaptive myoelectric processor nvestigation a fatigue-compensated myoelectric processor

Machine design

Designed 2 DOF shoulder for shoulder amputees Designing new, three degree of freedom, artificial wrist usable by wrist disarticulation amputees Designing a new advanced, body-powered artificial elbow Investigating polymer cabling for artificial limbs

Prosthetic touch feedback

Developed a system of physiologic extended taction

Chemical diffusion and separation

Investigated a method of chemical separation using laminar pulsatile flow

Analyzed electric field based strain sensors Developed experimental techniques to test electric field based strain sensors Designed electric field based angular position sensor Designed a test bed for evaluating field-based strain sensors
