Per the rules of the American Solar Challenge, the solar car is required to have a belly pan capable of supporting the full weight of a 70 kg driver. The seat itself needs to be able to accommodate the driver and the car needs to have an integrated restraint system. Due to the extremely small cockpit, size is of the utmost concern. This presents the most challenging part of the design. Specifically, finding the angle and height of the seat back that will support the driver comfortably during the course of the race.
