Problem Statement
With the solar car being almost complete the majority of the components have been bought. So this created many problems that had to be address in the design of the rack and pinion. With the frame and front suspension done, this limited the travel of the rack and pinion. The cockpit of the solar car is confined, so room for the brake system and steering components becomes a problem. As measurements were made on the car, a few problems were discovered. One of the problems is that the steering arms are not designed right to achieve the required turning radius. The second issue that came up is that the rack and pinion needed to be placed in line with the steering arms, but the existing mounts for the rack are to far back, which will cause the car to be unstable when hitting bumps.
