Final Selection

The Final QFD analyzed the top three choices for the Initial QFD: the Hand Lever, the Foot Pedal and the Dial Knob. From this, the Solar Car’s accelerator mechanism was finalized as the Hand Lever. This was not the safest choice; however, because the Solar Car Team already had the parts to make the Hand Lever and it was relatively simple to manufacture and assemble, this choice became the obvious one. This does not rule out the possibility of combining the top two choices: the Hand Lever and the Foot Pedal. One possible way to integrating the two systems is to have a wire connecting them. At this time, due to space and budget constraints, combining the two is not fesable. The budget and space issue was also one of the large deciding factor in not choosing a pedal accelerator.
