Conclusions
Going through the design process, even for something as seemingly simple as a windshield wiper, gave me insight into the value of really evaluating all possible decisions and strategies available for a particular design. The brainstorm and mindmap activity forced me to think outside the box, considering possibilities that were outside the realm of the windshield wipers used in a normal car. However, since the solar car is not a normal car, it is better suited to these different solutions because they do not consume electrical energy. Developing these different solutions gave me experience in the use of solid modeling techniques, ensuring that my portion of a project can be interfaced easily with the overall project, researching products available on the market to integrate into my own design, and utilizing standard parts. These skills are valuable to any engineer because they open the door to more robust, innovative, and easily adaptable designs.
