Problem Statement
At the beginning of this semester we started with the top and bottom molded fiberglass shells. There was no method previously designed to attach these shells together. Thus, the problem is posed.
The lower fiberglass shell was first cut into two pieces. The inner portion is meant to mount to the bottom of the vehicle. The outer portion will have a permanent connection to the upper shell. This permanent connection is the subject of this report. Reinforcement was necessary to assist in joining the upper and lower portions of the shell.
Summary
Each team member choose a part of the solar vehicle to perform a detailed design. These individual Wiki pages summarize the design process. The design process encompasses idea generation, qualitative selection, refinement, final selection, prototyping, and implementation.
Approach (Return to top)
My design challenge was to create a mechanism to attach the upper and lower shells. The following report outlines the design process for picking the best method for attaching these parts of the solar vehicle. This section includes the lab work, sketches, and design selection methodology.
Results (Return to top)
This section summarizes the findings of the design process. Design changes are discussed here and the final part is presented.
Lessons Learned (Return to top)
This section describes the knowledge gained during the design process. Also, recommendations for future work are included here.
Appendix (Return to top)
This section includes links to references and related documents.
