Lab 2 Tutorial
Pro E Users
Note there are 2 parts to this tutorial.
- Complete pages 34–59 of the same tutorial you used last week. Here is the url http://www.ptc.com/products/tutorials/proewf3/newusers/index35711.htm.
- Print out and turn in either a left or right view of the assembled engine (including the piston, piston pin, and connecting rod assembly).
- You will be learning some more basic modeling tools like mirroring. You will also learn how to assemble parts and make a mechanism.
- Complete the tutorial found at http://sharptechdesign.com:8888/Tutorials/ProE_Fundamentals_WF2/WF2_Lesson09.htm.
- Print out and turn in an isometric view of the bearing.
- This is a short tutorial that demonstrates revolves. Download this file in order to complete the tutorial.
Solid Works Users
Note there are 2 parts to this tutorial
- Open Solid works and choose help→online tutorials. Complete the Assembly Mates tutorial.
- Print out and hand in an isometric view of the complete universal joint assembly.
- Open Solid Works and choose help→online tutorials. Start the Revolves and Sweeps tutorial and complete the candle stick revolve. You do not need to do the sweep portion of this tutorial.
- Print out and hand in an isometric view of the candle stick.
Tips
- For the first tutorial (assembly tutorial)
- Before you make any assemblies you must change the units on the piston, piston pin, and connecting rod to mm. To do this go to edit→setup→units and choose mmNs. If you don’t do this, these parts will be much bigger than the engine block.
- On page 46, if the ASM planes don’t show up in the model tree, just hold control and select them in the model window. If this doesn’t work you might have to use the search button (the binoculars) to find them.
- On page 49, for the second search search in connecting_rod.prt not in the piston_pin.prt.
- To specify a diameter instead of a radius, choose the dimension tool and double click on any circle or arc and type in the dimension. If you single click it will give you a radius.
- For the second tutorial (revolve tutorial)
- After choosing to define the internal sketch and choosing \”Use Previous\” (and you are in sketch mode), choose sketch→references. A box will pop up on the right side where you can define more references. Click on the pointer and then choose the top horizontal line of the existing sketch. A horizontal dashed line should then appear there. This allows you to snap to this line.
