As the design process begins there are many tasks which need to be completed.
Material selection is a fundamental part of the final design. Many of the specifications for the materials are included in the rules of the Mini-Baja Competition. Then the materials will need to be ordered. The fabrication phase of the project will include machining, welding, electrical, linkage, drive train and other assembly tasks. The design process will continue as construction continues in order to resolve any unforeseen problems during the fabrication process. A Gantt chart has been created and will be updated as needed to help reduce confusion and to help keep the project on schedule.

The 2007 SAE Mini-Baja competition group will set out to design, build and compete with the most effective, safe and innovative vehicle possible. These goals will be accomplished using advanced machinery and building techniques, keeping in mind sound engineering principles. When built, the vehicle will adhere to the rules and regulations stipulated by the SAE regarding vehicle design and operation.

The ultimate goal of the senior design team is to complete a vehicle which will be used to compete in the Mini-Baja West competition. There are a multitude of rules and regulations that must be met in order to compete in the competition. Each vehicle will be inspected at the competition to ensure a safe and fair competition.
As the design process begins in the fall there are many tasks which need to be completed. The vehicle must be benchmarked against other similar vehicles. Customer needs will be determined. The design specifications need to be established. After these preliminary steps are completed the design process will be used to determine the final design. The design will need to include safety analysis to ensure the well-being of the driver.

Omnipresent through the whole project will be a budget. A necessary part of the project is to acquire funds to pay for the items needed for the build. The overall cost of the project, including parts and labor, will need to be accounted for as part of the competition.
