Problem Statement
The Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) team for the 2006/2007 school year will be putting an autopilot system in a propeller driven UAV.
To accomplish this goal the team has decided to break the project up into several smaller parts. My assignment was to design the mounts that would be used to hold the autopilot chip and also the GPS unit within and on the UAV.
Summary Of Approach
To accomplish the task of mounting the autopilot chip and GPS unit I needed to do a few things:
- Find the specifications and requirements of the chips.
- Brainstorm ideas of mounting the two different chips.
- Do a concept selection of all the ideas.
- Show a few of the chosen designs to the group.
- Make any adjustments.
- Continue steps 2–5 until a design has been selected.
Summary Of Results
After going through all of the steps listed above in the “Summary Of Approach”, a design for mounting the Autopilot chip and GPS unit has been selected.
Lessons Learned
The most important lesson that I learned through this semesters design problem was how important it is to communicate with the other team members in the group and receive their input.
