SLTEST Facility
(Surface Layer Turbulence and Environmental Science Test Facility)

Located in the West desert of Utah the Surface Layer Turbulence and Environmental Science Test (SLTEST) facility is a "Unique Facility for Micrometeorology and Engineering Fluid Dynamics Research".

The purpose of the SLTEST facility is to provide opportunities for the detailed study of near-surface atmospheric phenomena and high Reynolds number boundary layer turbulence.

Accomplishing this required a location providing the desirable wind and surface conditions, as well as the on-site facilities and infrastructure needed to efficiently conduct a wide variety of experiments. The first of these is satisfied by the unusual attributes of the SLTEST site. The second of these has been established owing to a joint effort involving the National Science Foundation (OSTI Award 9602318), the U.S. Army Dugway Proving Ground, Utah State University and the University of Utah..
