A student may pursue an M.S. with a thesis or non-thesis option. The minimum number of credits is 30. Per track requirements, three courses are required, plus an additional three courses from a restricted selection (see track courses for details). Students in the Mechanical Engineering M.S. Robotics Track must satisfy departmental degree requirements as well, which in addition to the track requirements includes:
A minimum of two 7000 level ME courses (six credits)
12 credit hours of ME courses.
A sample program of study meeting these requirements for a thesis M.S. student is shown below, Table 1. Please refer to the ME Graduate Advising Guide for specific details of ME requirements or contact Candace Christensen. For more information about the ME Robotics Track and Admission, please contact Mark Minor (minor 'at' mech.utah.edu) or John Hollerbach (jmh 'at' cs.utah.edu).

At the doctoral level, the Mechanical Engineering (ME) Robotics Track requires three core courses plus an additional four courses from a restricted selection (see track courses for details). Robotics Track students must also satisfy ME department requirements, which essentially requires that a minimum number of credits must be from both ME graduate courses and ME courses at the 7000 level. Per the ME Graduate Advising Guide, the total number of courses and credits required for the Ph.D. degree is dependent upon the highest degree earned prior to entering the Ph.D program. Table 2 summarizes these requirements, but students should refer to the ME Graduate Advising Guide for full details.
A sample program of study for a Post M.S. doctoral student in the Robotics Track is shown below, Table 3. Note that since the number of ME courses in the Robotics Track is limited at this time, it is thus necessary to actually complete 27 graduate course credits as indicated. Please contact Candace Christensen if you have questions about ME degree requirements. For more information about the ME Robotics Track and Admission, please contact Mark Minor (minor 'at' mech.utah.edu) or John Hollerbach (jmh 'at' cs.utah.edu).
