Software Development - 3D CAD Tools:
C
oM-SiM for Precision Machine Design.

Position:
Research Assistant, Mechanical Dept, University of Utah. [2002-2004]

Using:
.NET, OpenGL, Java3D, ADO.NET, SQL and ANSYS.

Brief Description:
CoM-SiM
is a novel approach to CAD tools for machine design, modeling and evaluation. It allows machine designers to model complicated systems including the structure and bearing systems, and analyze them with great efficiency. The main objective is to reduce design, modeling and evaluation time while delivering results with reasonable accuracy. This enables machine designers to create and analyze a large number of conceptual designs and evaluate them quickly and objectively.

MEMS and Micromachining:

Position:
Research Assistant, Mechanical Dept, University of Utah. [2003]

Using:
Actual MEMS fabrification with Intellisuite testing and simulation.

Brief Description:
Designed and built a totally new, two axis electrostatic microgripper, specially for the assembly of micro gears using conventional MEMS techniques (patent pending). The microgripper is actuated by two electrostatic comb actuators. The maximum obtainable deflection at the tip of the microgripper is 14 and 15 microns in the lateral and vertical directions with an applied voltage of 18-19 volts. The microgripper was designed, built and tested on ‘intellisuite’.

I also designed and physically built and tested micro transformer and micro heater arrays.

Scientific Data Visualization and Simulation Tools:

Position:
Research Assistant, Mechanical Dept, University of Utah. [2003]

Using:
Tcl/Tk and VTK. Used data from the 'visual human project'

Brief Description:
Built a set of computer tools to process data available from sources - flow fields, 'visual human' medical imaging, geographical contour data etc. These tools worked great to visualize the data by application of custom colormaps, contourmapping, isosurfacing, volume rendering and data slicing.

Web application development:

Position:
Web developer, passion4art.com, Louisville [2000-2001]

Using:
Java, RMI, Client/Server, ASP.NET, HTML

Brief Description:
While I worked for 'passion4art.com', based in Louisville, I single handedly built interactive java applets and games using online art available on the company website.
The 'Jig-It' applet is a online applet which breaks any given image to a puzzle game based on user specified variables like puzzle size, number of pieces and piece size. I used multithreading to incorporate a timer bound 'auto-solver' which automatically solves the puzzle, if the user gets tired of playing the game.
The 'Paint Me' applet is an advanced paint applet which uses a user chosen online art image as the background canvas to paint on. The painted image is then saved on the server (ASP and Java RMI ). I have developed many more such applets/ASP/HTML web development

Heat Transfer and Wind Tunnel design:

Position:
Research Assistant [2000,2002]

Using:
AutoCAD, Pro-Engineer, Heat Transfer/Fluid Dynamics research experience

Brief Description:
Designed the test section of a transonic wind tunnel to study heat transfer characteristics of a gas turbine aero foil. It also involved design of Zn-Se windows to photograph infrared images of the heated aerofoil from IR cameras. [Heat transfer Lab, UofU]

Design Methodology Teaching Assistant:

Position:
Teaching Assistant, Mechanical Dept, University of Utah. [2004]

Using:
Pro-Engineer WildFire and Pro-Mechanica

Brief Description:
Conducted design methodology - ME 4000 for B.S students during Fall '04. I was responsible for over 90 students and guided them using ProEngineer and ProMechanica WildFire. From part modeling, creating assemblies, functional mechanisms, detailed engineering drawings, fits and tolerances to static/dynamic load analysis of mechanisms were conducted.

Plastics - Injection Molding:

Position:
Assistant Engineer, Mecon LLC, [2001-2002]

Using:
J-ELII IM Machine.

Brief Description:
Design for injection molding (on the J-ELII injection molding machine) of various thermoplastic products, based on available material, process constraints, least material consumption, volume of production etc., to arrive at the most economical and feasible molds. Prototypes were manufactured and studied for optimizing temperature, flow rate etc. for further process optimization. Various parts produced included ‘Telephone base covers' and ‘end caps'.

Gmail Notifier:

Position:
Hobby project

Using:
VB.NET

Brief Description:
A couple of months ago, when 'gmail notifier' was not out yet, I wrote my own. I think when compared to the real gmail notifier, mine still rocks. It sits transparent near the taskbar when there are no new mails at gmail. It checks every minute (which can be changed) for new mails and when it finds them, it notifies the user by blinking slowly. When the program is double clicked anywhere, it opens the users gmail account in the default browser. This program uses 'cookies' to sign into the users gmail account.

3D Image mapped terrain generator/simulator/visualizer:

Position:
Hobby Project

Using:
OpenGL (CSGL), VB.NET

Brief Description:
I always wanted to test my 3D graphics skills and ended up writing this program. This program imagemaps an user defined image onto a randomly generated terrain. This terrain moves towards the screen giving a 'fly through' effect. It also simulates twinkling stars.

This program can
also use any 3D terrain data (ascii formatted x,y,z file) to generate the terrain 'fly by' loop.
