Mechanical engineering assistant professor Pania Newell was selected for the competitive 2019 Air Force Summer Faculty Fellowship Program. This program is sponsored by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) and offers hands-on exposure to Air Force research challenges through 8- to 12-week research residencies at participating Air Force research facilities.

Along with one of her graduate students Newell was selected to spend 11 weeks at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH. During this program, Newell’s research focus is on developing experimental and numerical characterization tools for nano-architected porous ceramics.
